Kaohsiung Parent-Child Playground opening
Overview
The Kaohsiung City Government has opened the Kaohsiung Parent-Child Playground, a new public recreation area located in the Fengshan District on the site of the former Taiwan Railways Administration Kaohsiung Machine-Shop. The approximately 1.5-hectare facility is described as Taiwan’s largest semi-indoor parent-child playground.
Designed to provide year-round recreation, the site utilizes historic industrial architecture and features over 30 free play facilities. These include a cloud-bounce bed, climbing nets, a water-play zone, a pump-track, a rock-climbing wall, and themed rail-culture exhibits. The venue also incorporates large-scale art installations by local artists. To accommodate various weather conditions, the facility includes solar panels, shade structures, mist-cooling systems, and indoor sections.
The playground operates from 09:00 to 19:00, five to six days a week, with free entry. Accessibility is provided via the Kaohsiung Light Rail (Kaixuan-Wuchang station), bus routes, and on-site parking. During its opening month, the city government offered a limited-time free shuttle service on weekends. The facility serves as part of a broader summer leisure surge in Kaohsiung, blending family-friendly recreation with rail-heritage education.
