Kaohsiung sets record August rainfall with 1,712 mm

Kaohsiung has recorded a historic amount of rainfall for the month of August, totaling 1,712 mm. This figure breaks the previous monthly record set in 1931 and represents approximately 93% of the city's total annual average rainfall.

In response to the extreme weather, the Kaohsiung City Government has established a Level 3 Heavy Rain Disaster Response Center. The Water Resources Bureau has been deployed to the water situation center to manage emergency operations, while other departments have formed emergency response teams to prepare flood control and disaster relief equipment and personnel.

The Central Weather Administration predicts continued unstable weather through September 2 due to the influence of a low-pressure belt and southwest winds. Forecasts suggest rainfall will become more concentrated, with potential precipitation in low-lying areas exceeding that in mountainous regions.
