Kaohsiung Teachers' Union announces exclusive support for Ko Chih-en
The Kaohsiung Teachers' Union has officially announced its exclusive support for Kuomintang mayoral candidate Ko Chih-en. During an awards ceremony for model teachers, Union Secretary-General Yu Ju-zheng praised Ko for her professional expertise and responsiveness to educational issues, specifically citing her efforts regarding school meeting mechanisms and teacher rights.
Ko has pledged several policy commitments to support educators, including legislative efforts to allow teachers to take holidays on May Day and Teacher's Day. She also promised to rationalize overtime compensation, restore annual teacher cultural and educational activity funds, and reduce class sizes to improve teaching quality.
A central part of her platform is the legal protection of the ‘right to disconnect.’ Ko noted that while the Ministry of Education has issued guidance on the matter, it lacks legal force. She aims to elevate this right to a statutory level to ensure teachers have protected rest periods after work hours.
