Kapuk Muara residents report illegal waste disposal sites

Residents of RW 003 in Kapuk Muara, North Jakarta, have reported the existence of illegal temporary waste disposal sites (TPS) in their neighborhood. The accumulation of large volumes of waste and industrial debris has caused significant environmental and health concerns.

Local residents report that the sites produce a pungent odor and pollute the air through waste decomposition and illegal burning. There are also heightened fears of fire due to the mixture of household waste and flammable materials. Furthermore, the landfilling of waste has damaged land that previously served as water absorption areas, increasing the risk of flooding during heavy rains.

Community members have expressed suspicion regarding the continuity of these illegal activities, alleging that certain officials may be protecting the waste-hauling trucks. Despite multiple reports, residents claim no decisive action has been taken by authorities. In response to these grievances, the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD DKI Jakarta) is urging the provincial government to intervene and investigate the legality of the activities at these locations.
