Turkish cities implement flood cleanup, water‑saving landscaping and tree planting

Keçiören Municipality in Ankara mobilised about 600 staff to clear damage from recent heavy rain. Crews repaired roads with excavators and graders, removed debris from 51 neighbourhoods, and cleared parks, using motor pumps and vacuum trucks to restore safety.

In the Antalya district of Kepez, the municipality rolled out xeriscape (kurakçıl) landscaping across parks and green spaces. Traditional grass lawns were replaced with drought‑tolerant stone beds and hardy plants, and timed irrigation and drip‑water systems were installed to cut water consumption and maintenance costs. Mayor Mesut Kocagöz said, “İklim değişikliğinin etkilerini her geçen gün daha fazla hissediyoruz.”

Etimesgut Municipality in Ankara reported ongoing park and green‑area upkeep, with crews mowing, treating, and cleaning to keep the sites tidy and inviting for families. The municipality’s social‑media note echoed, “Yazın tadı parklarda çıkar!”

Karabük Municipality conducted a large‑scale greening effort, planting over 18,600 trees, shrubs and saplings and adding 30,000 m² of new grass. The project refreshed 34 parks and social facilities, aiming to improve urban livability and the city’s reputation as a leader in forest cover.
