Karachi police find no clues in Mir Raza Ali murder investigation
The investigation into the murder of Karachi entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali has reached a standstill, with Karachi police chief Azad Khan informing the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights that no clues have been found despite interviewing 78 people. The victim, owner of the dessert shop Wafflix, died on July 28 following alleged kidnapping.
Evidence presented to the committee includes traces of hydrochloric acid on the victim’s shirt, marks indicating torture, and a .30-bore pistol shell. Significant discrepancies have emerged in post-mortem reports regarding the bullet’s entry point. Furthermore, the victim’s family has reported massive financial losses, alleging that his father was scammed out of Rs15 million and that the family had to sell gold and vehicles to cover debts.
Legal experts and the victim's family have called for a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to ensure transparency, though the Sindh High Court previously directed existing officers to conduct an impartial probe instead of forming a JIT. Additionally, a medical witness, Dr. Summaiya, testified to the judicial commission that she faced online harassment and physical threats after challenging initial autopsy findings.
