Karatay hosts 11th traditional youth bicycle race

The 11th traditional Flat Bicycle Race was held in Karatay to promote cycling culture, encourage children to participate in sports, and strengthen healthy living awareness. Approximately 500 young athletes competed in age categories of 6-8, 9-11, and 12-14 years old across 1.4 and 2.8 kilometer courses.

Starting from Olympic Park, the race covered routes including Sarıhoca, Emaye, Taşra Karaaslan, and Asarçay streets. Winners in six different categories received trophies and medals during a ceremony attended by local officials.

Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca emphasized the importance of supporting youth and highlighted Konya’s vision to become the European Cycling Capital in 2026. He also announced the ongoing construction of the Karatay Sports Center in the Karaaslan neighborhood, which will feature halls for various sports disciplines.
