Karen de Moura Tanaka Mori Must Hand Over Passport to End Ankle Monitor

A São Paulo judge suspended the electronic ankle monitor and night‑time house arrest imposed on Karen de Moura Tanaka Mori, known as “Japa do PCC”, on the condition that she surrender her passport. The defense told the court the passport was seized by police during a search of her home, prompting the judge, Paula Regina Schempf Cattan, to request clarification from the Federal and Civil Police.

Mori remains under home detention, is prohibited from leaving the state without judicial permission and must appear in court monthly. She is under investigation for money‑laundering and participation in an organized‑crime group, with authorities having seized more than R$ 1 million in cash, a luxury vehicle and over US$ 50 000 during the operation that led to her arrest. Investigators allege she used drug‑trafficking proceeds to fund businesses in the beauty sector and other enterprises.

The court’s new precautionary measures aim to ensure compliance while the criminal probe continues.
