Karin Angerer becomes President of Germany’s Federal Court of Justice

Karin Angerer has officially assumed the presidency of Germany’s Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe, succeeding Bettina Limperg. Angerer, previously the President of the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Bamberg, was selected by the Federal Judges Election Committee in June and subsequently appointed by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Angerer’s legal career includes roles as a prosecutor and judge in Munich, as well as positions within the Bavarian Ministry of Justice. She has also served as a member and deputy president of the Bavarian Constitutional Court.

Bettina Limperg retires after more than twelve years in office, marking the longest tenure of any BGH president. During her leadership, the court expanded, new senates were established, and digital advancements such as electronic files were implemented. Limperg also led the network of presidents of the supreme courts of the European Union from 2021 to 2023.
