Magda Vášáryová receives President's Award at 60th Karlovy Vary Film Festival
The 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival ran from 3 to 11 July 2026 in the Czech spa town. The closing ceremony on 11 July honoured a slate of award‑winning films and attracted a host of international stars, including Dustin Hoffman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kevin Bacon and Juliette Binoche.
The President's Award for outstanding contribution to Czech‑Slovak cinema was presented to Slovak actress and former diplomat Magda Vášáryová, who appeared in a custom‑made red wool‑crepe gown designed by Boris Kráľ that referenced the classic film *Postřižiny*. The same prize was shared with American actor Jeffrey Wright. The Crystal Globe for extraordinary artistic contribution went to Juliette Binoche. Other competition winners included the Grand Prix (US$ 25 000) for *Fruit Gathering* (directed by Aung Phyoe, a co‑production of Myanmar, Czech Republic and France) and the Special Jury Prize for *The Guest* (directed by Mads Mengel, Denmark).
The festival also featured notable fashion moments: a series of red, blue and jewel‑tone gowns worn by women over 50, and a black silk–satén dress by Andrea Eichingerová on the red carpet. Attendance figures rose to over 132 000 tickets for 472 screenings, and 11 014 accredited guests, reflecting strong domestic interest in the anniversary edition.
