Karlovy Vary International Film Festival honors Dustin Hoffman, Juliette Binoche, Maggie Gyllenhaal
The 60th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival opened in the Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary and will run until 11 July. On opening night American actor Dustin Hoffman received the Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema and presented his 1967 classic The Graduate. Actress Juliette Binoche will be honoured with the same award at the closing ceremony. American actress and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal was presented with the President’s Award for her artistic contribution.
The festival is showcasing around 200 films, including twelve in the official competition for the Crystal Globe. Other honorees include cinematographer Robert Richardson, who will introduce a documentary about his career. The event attracts thousands of visitors from abroad and features affordable public tickets, underscoring its role as a major cultural gathering in Central Europe.
