Karlovy Vary International Film Festival celebrates 60th edition

The 60th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival runs from 3 to 11 July 2026 in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The opening ceremony at the Thermal Hotel featured Dustin Hoffman receiving the Crystal Globe, with the festival’s president’s award presented to actress‑director Maggie Gyllenhaal, who recalled her student years in Prague. International stars such as Harvey Keitel, Jesse Eisenberg, Juliette Binoche, Kevin Bacon and Czech actors Anna Geislerová, Tereza Ramba and Dagmar Havlová attended. The first day concluded with a 10‑minute drone show using more than 1,300 drones.

Allwyn continues as a strategic partner, supporting the Future Frames – Generation NEXT of European Cinema programme. The initiative mentors ten emerging European directors each year and offers a one‑month scholarship in Los Angeles. This year, Greek director Christos Niko, known for the Oscar‑shortlisted film “Apples,” participated as a mentor, highlighting the festival’s growing Greek involvement.
