Karlovy Vary Film Festival spotlights Slovak‑Czech films Bojovník and Milovník, ne bojovník
Slovak actor Ján Jackuliak attended the Karlovy Vary Film Festival to promote his new film Bojovník. He told reporters that he plays villain roles in about 95 % of his work, describing himself as “completely different” off‑screen. Preparing for Bojovník required months of physical training, weight gain, boxing, bodybuilding and a special diet, and he sustained a serious arm injury that left a large scar.
The Slovak‑Czech feature Milovník, ne bojovník also drew strong audience reaction at the festival. Critics praised its natural dialogue and humor, noting that the film, while aimed at teenagers, also resonated with older viewers. Director Martina Buchelová highlighted the story’s optimism and the importance of the characters’ mutual support. The movie is scheduled for release in Czech cinemas on 17 September.
