Karls Erlebnis-Dorf expands internationally despite US construction setbacks

Karls Erlebnis-Dorf, an expanding theme park chain, is experiencing significant growth and international ambitions. Following the July 2026 opening of its eighth location in Oberhausen, Germany, the company is planning expansions into Mallorca, Spain, and the United States.

However, the US expansion in Oxnard, California, has faced setbacks. CEO Robert Dahl reported that existing buildings on the site were found to be heavily infested with termites, necessitating their complete demolition and a restart of the construction process.

The new Oberhausen location has already become a major attraction, featuring unique culinary offerings like strawberry doner kebabs and a high-altitude ride called the ‘Erdbeer-Döner’. While visitors have praised the park's family-friendly atmosphere, some have noted a need for more diaper-changing facilities and improved entry queue management. The park operates on a cashless system and offers daily prize giveaways via its own radio station.
