Karls Erlebnis-Dorf in Oberhausen faces criticism over park character
Karls Erlebnis-Dorf, a new theme park located near the Centro in Oberhausen, has faced criticism from parents regarding a specific character known as the ‘Klomann’. Some visitors have reported that the rustic figure, which greets guests at the toilet entrances with cheeky remarks, is too frightening for small children.
Robert Dahl, head of the Karls Erlebnis-Dorf chain, responded to the complaints by stating that the character has been a staple in all their parks for many years and suggested that ‘a little bit of spookiness is part of it’.
Opened in July 2026, the park offers a different concept compared to traditional amusement parks, focusing on a farm-themed atmosphere rather than high-thrill roller coasters. The park features free admission, though visitors must pay for food, drinks, and specific rides using cashless methods. The site, located in the Neue Mitte area, previously hosted Centropark and Sea Life.
