Karlsruhe authorities report food safety violations and illegal imports

The Karlsruhe District Office has released its 2025 annual report regarding food safety inspections and consumer protection. Authorities conducted 2,949 inspections across 4,636 businesses, including manufacturers, restaurants, and retailers.

These inspections resulted in 1,107 measures, including 57 orders, 43 deficiency reports, and 37 fines. Two criminal proceedings were initiated, and eight businesses voluntarily restricted operations due to acute hygiene deficiencies.

A significant violation involved an attempt to import approximately one ton of various confectionery products from Syria into Germany. The shipment included chocolate products and pistachio-based sweets, some of which lacked proper labeling or composition details. Such imports from non-EU countries are strictly regulated to prevent the spread of animal diseases and other health risks.
