Karnataka Cabinet schedules special session to address drought

The Karnataka Cabinet has scheduled a special three-day Assembly session starting September 21 to address the state's drought situation and discuss the Kasturirangan report.

In response to the drought, the government has considered cloud seeding; however, weather experts and officials from the India Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre have cautioned that current atmospheric conditions are unsuitable. Experts noted a lack of necessary cumulonimbus clouds and moisture levels required for the process, suggesting the government defer such efforts until October when monsoon patterns may be more favorable.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the creation of a new Department for Global Investment and Overseas Affairs to facilitate foreign investment and manage international partnerships. Other approved measures include funding for lake filling projects, rehabilitation works for reservoir projects, and participation in the central government's RCS UDAN 6.0 scheme to improve air connectivity.
