Karnataka extends Gruha Jyothi survey deadline and plans Gruha Lakshmi re-verification
The Karnataka government has extended the deadline for the door-to-door survey of beneficiaries under the Gruha Jyothi scheme to September 30. The extension follows reports that only about 68 to 70 percent of the eligible households had been surveyed by the original August 31 deadline. Challenges in completing the survey include difficulties accessing apartment complexes and gated communities in Bengaluru, as well as encountering locked or vacant premises.
To address these issues, the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has issued new guidelines. Meter readers will now visit locked houses up to three times at different time slots, capturing geo-coordinates and sending SMS notifications to registered mobile numbers.
Separately, the state is preparing a re-verification exercise for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. With approximately Rs 20 crore earmarked for this process, officials aim to identify and remove ineligible beneficiaries, such as those paying GST, filing income tax returns, or deceased individuals, to ensure financial assistance reaches only genuine recipients.
