Karnataka government cancels 1,100 illegal MUDA site allotments

The Karnataka government has ordered the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to cancel approximately 1,100 illegal alternative site allotments in Mysuru. These sites, valued at roughly Rs 2,000 crore, were granted under the 50:50 alternative land compensation scheme in violation of a March 14, 2023, government directive.

The decision follows recommendations from the Justice P. N. Desai Commission and a high-level technical committee. For sites where sale deeds have already been registered, the government intends to initiate legal proceedings and civil suits to seek their cancellation.

Authorities have been directed to withhold the issuance of khatas for these properties. Local bodies, including the Mysuru City Corporation, have also been instructed to cancel any previously issued khatas for the affected sites. Urban Development Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah stated that all allotment orders made in violation of the 2023 directive must be cancelled immediately.
