Karnataka High Court blocks forced action against lawmaker C.T. Ravi amid student protest legal battles

The Karnataka High Court issued an interim order preventing any forced action against legislator C.T. Ravi in a case stemming from his provocative remarks about a leaked NIT exam paper. The court halted the filing of a criminal petition, directed the Chikkamagaluru police to issue a notice to the government, and postponed the hearing to July 31.

Separately, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal pledged a ₹1 crore donation to a newly created legal‑aid fund, the Cacroach Janata Party (CJP) Legal Assistance Fund, to support students facing FIRs for protesting the question‑paper leak. Sibal’s contribution aims to help students obtain free legal representation nationwide and to challenge any criminal cases filed against them.
