In late July 2026, Karnataka police filed a First Information Report against BJP legislator C.T. Ravi after he alleged that a “mulla” was involved in protests over a leaked NEET exam paper, linking demonstrators to the “tukde‑tukde gang.” The complaint was lodged following a protest march in Chikkamagaluru and prompted calls from the Karnataka State Muslim Federation for Ravi’s arrest, citing communal hatred.

Two days later, the Karnataka High Court issued an interim order that halted any forced action against Ravi in the case. The court stopped the filing of a criminal petition, directed police to serve a notice to the state government, and postponed the hearing to July 31. In the same report, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal announced a ₹1 crore contribution to a newly created legal‑aid fund intended to support students facing FIRs for protesting the exam‑paper leak, aiming to provide free legal representation nationwide.
