Karnataka launches KEO AI computing device for government schools

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has launched KEO, an AI-enabled computing device developed by the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation (KEONICS). The initiative aims to democratize access to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies for students in government schools across the state.

The government plans to initially deploy 1,000 KEO AI personal computers in government schools. The long-term objective is to expand this technology to every government school in Karnataka, with a specific focus on reaching rural areas to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban centers.

The KEO device is designed to assist students in learning coding, machine learning, electronics, and artificial intelligence, while providing teachers with AI-based interactive learning tools. Shivakumar stated that the program aims to create a distributed talent pool throughout the state, preventing technology opportunities from being concentrated solely in Bengaluru.
