Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said the Karnataka government is committed to protecting the state’s farmers in the Cauvery water dispute and urged organisations to cancel a planned statewide bandh, noting that recent rainfall has eased the situation. He also asked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to postpone his Bengaluru visit to allow talks in a calmer atmosphere.

The BJP state president Vijayendra praised Karnataka’s stance on Cauvery, called for adequate water for farmers and urged the rapid resumption of the Mekedatu reservoir project. Meanwhile, Shivakumar assigned specific districts to each cabinet minister to inspect flood‑affected and drought‑prone areas and submit ground‑level reports, naming dozens of ministers and their assigned districts.

Following a recent cabinet expansion that brought the ministry to full strength with 20 new ministers, Shivakumar assured dissatisfied Congress leaders that they would receive appropriate responsibilities and asked them to be patient. Senior BJP leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy accused the Congress of a constitutional impropriety for announcing names for presiding‑officer posts before the positions were vacant.
