Poland's PiS split leads to formation of Morawiecki's Rozwój Plus club
The political landscape in Poland has shifted following a formal split within Law and Justice (PiS). Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and a group of approximately 40 MPs and one senator have formed a new parliamentary club called Rozwój Plus. This division occurred after PiS leadership demanded that members resign from political associations, a requirement Morawiecki's group refused to meet.
Both the PiS faction and the Rozwój Plus group are actively seeking to maintain strong relations with President Karol Nawrocki. Morawiecki has emphasized the President's independence, stating his mandate comes from citizens rather than party structures. Meanwhile, the split has caused logistical disputes in the Sejm regarding seating arrangements and the allocation of parliamentary rooms. Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty has indicated he will not intervene in these disputes, leaving the groups to reach their own agreements.
Recent polling suggests a fragmented right wing. While Koalicja Obywatelska leads with 33.5 percent support, a potential right-wing alliance between PiS, Konfederacja, and Rozwój Plus faces significant public skepticism. A SW Research poll found that 53.6 percent of respondents would not vote for such a joint list.
