Karol Sz. detained for murder of mother and attempted murder of grandmother in Chojna, Poland

Polish prosecutors in Gryfinie are investigating a homicide that occurred on 20 July 2026 in a residential building under construction in the municipality of Chojna. Twenty‑one‑year‑old Karol Sz. is accused of killing his 46‑year‑old mother and attempting to kill his 70‑year‑old grandmother. The mother was found with extensive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene; the grandmother was treated for injuries but her life is not in danger.

Karol Sz. was located in a family garden plot on Ogrodowa Street in Chojna and taken into custody. He denied the charges. On 22 July 2026 a court ordered his temporary detention for three months, until 18 October 2026. The investigation will include forensic pathology examinations of both victims and psychiatric evaluation of the suspect. The case remains ongoing.
