Chojna homicide investigations

In July 2026, police in the western Polish town of Chojna uncovered two separate homicide cases. On 20 July, a woman's body was found in a residential building under construction. Within hours, a 19‑year‑old male suspect, believed to be the victim’s son, was located at a nearby garden plot and detained. A second woman at the scene was injured but survived. The investigation, overseen by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gryfino, treated the killing as a possible family‑related dispute.

A week later, prosecutors announced a second case from the same date. Twenty‑one‑year‑old Karol Sz. was charged with murdering his 46‑year‑old mother and attempting to kill his 70‑year‑old grandmother. Both victims were found in the same construction site; the mother sustained fatal head injuries while the grandmother survived with non‑life‑threatening wounds. Karol Sz. was apprehended at a family garden plot, denied the charges, and a court ordered his temporary detention for three months pending forensic and psychiatric examinations. Both investigations remain ongoing.

These incidents illustrate a series of serious violent crimes within Chojna, prompting coordinated police and prosecutorial actions, including rapid suspect location, use of canine and drone units, and court‑ordered detentions.
