Karpathos police arrest two youths for fraud and criminal organization

Police in Karpathos have arrested two local youths, aged 17 and 18, for allegedly forming a criminal organization and committing fraud. The arrests took place on September 9 following an investigation into a complaint.

The incident occurred on September 7, when an individual contacted a residence via telephone. Using the pretext that the victim's parents were facing fines and imminent arrest, the perpetrator pressured a minor into handing over cash and valuables. Authorities identified and apprehended the two suspects, who are scheduled to appear before the Rhodes Court of First Instance.

In response to the incident, police have issued a warning to the public regarding similar scams. Fraudsters often impersonate accountants, police officers, doctors, or utility employees to create fear and pressure victims—particularly the elderly or vulnerable individuals—into surrendering money or valuables.
