Youth criminal activity in Greece

Overview

Authorities in Greece have arrested several youths involved in criminal activities targeting vulnerable individuals.

In Karpathos, two suspects aged 17 and 18 were apprehended for allegedly forming a criminal organization to commit fraud. The group reportedly used phone scams, impersonating officials to pressure victims into surrendering cash and valuables.

In the Kifisia and Marousi areas, two youths aged 17 and 19 were arrested for operating a gang that committed violent robberies. The group specifically targeted elderly women to steal gold jewelry, such as necklaces, often using violence to snatch items from their necks. Video footage released by MEGA shows suspects ambushing victims, including one instance where an elderly woman was knocked to the ground in the street.

The suspects were apprehended on the night of September 23 after refusing to comply with police orders during a patrol in Kifisia. Investigations have linked the duo to at least six similar robberies. Both individuals have been charged with forming a criminal organization, habitual robbery, and disobedience, and have been remanded in custody by order of the prosecutor. Police are continuing to search for a third identified accomplice.
