Karpenisi police arrest two members of a phone fraud ring

Two members of a phone fraud ring were arrested in Karpenisi after attempting to scam an active security officer. The scheme began when an accomplice called the officer's landline, posing as an accountant. The fraudster claimed that the officer needed to hand over electronics, cash, and jewelry to a specific location to avoid fines imposed via drone surveillance.

Realizing the deception, the officer alerted his department and coordinated a sting operation. He pretended to comply, arranging to meet the suspects at his apartment building. When the passenger arrived to collect the bag of valuables, security officers intercepted and immobilized him. The driver was also arrested.

During the investigation at the Evrytania Police Directorate, officers discovered a hidden compartment in the suspects' vehicle used to conceal stolen goods. Recovered items included a gold cat-shaped pin and an ancient Athenian owl medallion.
