Turkish cities celebrate 104th anniversaries of liberation from occupation

Various regions in Turkey are holding ceremonies and events to commemorate the 104th anniversaries of their liberation from occupation during the Turkish War of Independence.

In İzmir, the 14th International September 9 İzmir Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, September 13, featuring over 3,000 athletes from 14 countries. The event will cause temporary changes to public transportation and road closures along the coastline. In Karşıyaka, residents participated in a lantern procession with Turkish flags and traditional Zeybek dance performances to celebrate the city's liberation.

In Bursa, celebrations included concerts and a symbolic reenactment of the liberation at the historic municipal building. In Kestel, Mayor Ferhat Erol issued a message highlighting the historical significance of September 10, 1922, noting that the district's liberation was a crucial step toward the liberation of Bursa.

In Aliağa, official ceremonies will be held at Cumhuriyet Square, including a photo exhibition titled “Kurtuluş'tan Cumhuriyet'e Aliağa” (From Liberation to the Republic of Aliağa) which documents the town's transformation from a small village to a modern city.
