Kashmiri Pandit employees set September 30 deadline for housing

Kashmiri Pandit employees appointed under the Prime Minister’s package staged a protest in Srinagar on Wednesday, setting a September 30 deadline for the administration to provide pending transit accommodation. The employees, who are currently reliant on rented housing, are demanding the early allotment of government-built flats and a permanent housing solution.

The government is currently executing a program to construct 6,000 transit accommodation flats in the Valley. As of a review meeting in March, 4,128 flats had been completed, with the remaining units scheduled for phased completion. The final 456 units are targeted for completion by September.

In addition to housing, the employees expressed ongoing security concerns. The All PM Package Employees Forum recently requested a review of security at workplaces, residential areas, and transit routes following the circulation of threat posters containing personal details of some employees. Protesters warned that failure to meet their demands by the end of the month will result in indefinite protests and hunger strikes.
