Kastamonu Governor Meftun Dallı Condemns Forest Litter After Summer Fires

Governor Meftun Dallı of Turkey’s Kastamonu province warned that waste such as glass bottles and cigarette butts left in forest areas fuels fires. He noted that more than 30 fires broke out this summer, including two major forest fires in the districts of Araç and Tosya, and described the littering as "treason."

During a briefing on the 2027‑2031 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Plan (IRAP), Dallı urged citizens to avoid picnics in forested zones and called for stricter enforcement of anti‑litter measures. Officials from public agencies and NGOs attended, and a proposal was presented to develop a digital system that would track the plan’s actions and indicators in real time, improving coordination among authorities.

The governor stressed the need for continuous preparedness, stating that the province faces numerous natural‑hazard threats and that proactive measures are essential to prevent further human‑caused incidents.
