Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz resigns as Minister and Polska 2050 leader

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz has resigned from her positions as Minister of Funds and Regional Policy and as the leader of the Polska 2050 party. Her departure from Donald Tusk’s government follows a contentious Sejm vote regarding local government term limits, where the assembly voted 215 to 213 to maintain the two-term limit for mayors and local officials.

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz criticized members of the governing coalition, including those within her own party, for prioritizing political maneuvering over public expectations. She stated that “values are more important than seats” and described the current administration as a “government of stagnation.”

Following her resignation, Jan Szyszko also stepped down from his role as Deputy Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, citing a lack of alignment with the coalition's political direction. Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented that Pełczyńska-Nałęcz appeared “politically very lost” but noted he has two female candidates in mind to succeed her. Szymon Hołownia will take over the leadership of Polska 2050.
