Katerina Notopoulou resigns as SYRIZA MP from Thessaloniki constituency

On 8 July 2026 Katerina Notopoulou announced her resignation from the Hellenic Parliament, relinquishing her seat as the SYRIZA MP for the Thessaloniki A district. She informed SYRIZA president Sotiris Famellos by telephone and submitted an official letter of resignation to Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis.

The departure comes days before a critical SYRIZA Central Committee meeting scheduled for 11 July, amid internal turbulence linked to the re‑emergence of former prime minister Alexis Tsipras and ongoing factional disputes. Her parliamentary seat is expected to be filled by former foreign minister Giannis Amanatidis, who has recently returned to active politics and is likely to support SYRIZA’s minority status in the legislature.
