Katerini police solve 33,000 euro fraud against elderly woman
Police in Katerini have solved a telephone fraud case involving an elderly woman who was swindled out of 33,000 euros and various pieces of jewelry. The incident occurred on September 18, 2026.
According to authorities, an accomplice called the victim while impersonating an employee of the electricity distribution company, DEDDIE. The caller falsely claimed to be conducting electrical leak measurements and convinced the woman to place her cash and valuables in a bag outside her home, alleging that the items were causing interference with the measurements.
Two men subsequently retrieved the items using a vehicle belonging to a female accomplice, which has since been seized. A case has been filed against three identified individuals: two men and one woman. The investigation is ongoing to identify the person who made the initial phone call and to determine if the suspects are involved in other similar crimes. The case will be submitted to the Prosecutor of First Instance of Katerini.
