Monsoon rains trigger landslides and floods in Nepal, leaving two dead and one missing

Heavy monsoon rains across Nepal have caused a surge in natural‑disaster incidents. In a 24‑hour period, 73 events were recorded, including 40 landslides in 26 districts that killed two men in Kalikot, 14 flood incidents affecting 10 districts with one person missing, as well as snake bites, a fire and wildlife attacks. Rainfall was reported at 278 of 380 monitoring stations, with a peak of 319.8 mm at Chitwan. Meteorologists warn that rainfall is expected to increase in central and western Nepal over the coming days as the monsoon’s low‑pressure line shifts northward, raising the risk of further landslides and flooding. Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to stay vigilant around rivers and vulnerable terrain.
