Kathmandu Traffic Police enforce two-driver rule for night buses
The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office is intensifying enforcement of regulations requiring two drivers for long-distance public vehicles operating at night. This measure is being prioritized ahead of the upcoming Dashain festival season to manage the expected surge in passenger numbers and long-distance travel.
Authorities aim to reduce road accidents caused by driver fatigue during extended journeys. Senior Superintendent of Police Suresh Prasad Kafle stated that regular inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance, and vehicles found operating with only one driver will face legal action.
In addition to the two-driver requirement, Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi noted that police will strictly monitor drivers for alcohol or drug consumption. The special festival-season campaign will also include checks on vehicle conditions and driver qualifications to ensure overall passenger safety.
