Poland health experts urge increased vaccination for influenza and RSV

Health experts in Poland are highlighting the importance of seasonal vaccinations, noting an increase in the use of vaccines against influenza, RSV, and shingles. While influenza vaccination rates are rising, experts warn that coverage among adults, particularly seniors, remains insufficient.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is identified as a significant threat to older adults, often leading to severe lower respiratory tract infections, hospitalizations, and exacerbations of chronic conditions like heart failure. Although RSV is frequently associated with infants, it poses a substantial risk to those over 65.

Concerns have been raised regarding potential changes to the list of free medications for seniors, which could impact access to RSV vaccinations. Medical professionals recommend that the start of the infection season in September and October is an ideal time for co-administration of RSV and influenza vaccines to improve logistical ease and patient protection.
