Katra, Jammu and Kashmir Establishes Monsoon Disaster Control Room, Halts Pilgrimage
The Sub‑Divisional Administration of Katra in Jammu and Kashmir has created a dedicated Monsoon Disaster Management Control Room. The facility operates under Sub‑Divisional Magistrate Piyush Dhotra (JKAS) and the supervision of Tehsildar Jatinder Singh, coordinating police, public works, health, power, Jal Shakti, municipal authorities and other departments. It will monitor heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides, water‑logging and road blockages around the clock, record incidents affecting property, electricity and drinking‑water supplies, and relay situation reports to higher authorities. Residents can contact the control room at 01991‑295681 for emergencies.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has been temporarily suspended because of the adverse weather conditions. Pilgrims have been advised to stay updated through official channels and the Yatra will resume once conditions improve and the route is deemed safe. Authorities continue to monitor forecasts predicting widespread rain, thunderstorms and possible heavy showers in the region.
