Coffee market trends show rising prices and shifting consumer habits

Recent reports highlight evolving coffee consumption habits and market trends in Germany and Austria. In Vienna, espresso and cappuccino remain popular, with a high preference for coffee consumed at home or on the go. Data shows a generational divide, as Gen Z shows a significantly higher preference for coffee-to-go compared to Baby Boomers.

In the German market, coffee prices have risen due to energy and transport costs. Consumers are advised to watch for cost-saving opportunities, such as purchasing whole beans instead of expensive capsules, which can cost up to 92.26 euros per kilogram. Retailer Kaufland is offering discounts on Käfer coffee beans to mitigate these rising costs.

Regarding brewing technology, filter coffee machines remain the most widespread device in German households, despite the popularity of capsule and automatic machines. Testing of various models shows that high-quality filter machines, such as those from Severin, continue to offer strong performance and ease of use.
