Kaufland tests automatic license plate recognition parking system

Kaufland is piloting a new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system at selected store locations in Poland to streamline the parking process. The technology uses cameras at entry and exit points to automatically record vehicle license plates and track the duration of stay.

Under this system, customers can park for up to two hours free of charge without the need to take a ticket, press buttons, or use a parking meter upon arrival. If a vehicle remains on the premises for longer than two hours, the driver must settle the required fee via a parking meter or a mobile application.

The pilot program is currently active at nine locations, including stores in Bydgoszcz, Dębica, Gdynia, Głogów, Lublin, Sosnowiec, Warsaw, and Wrocław. The company reports that initial results are promising and the system aims to increase customer convenience by making parking a seamless part of the shopping experience.
