Retailers in Poland are piloting Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to automate parking management at store locations.

Kaufland initiated a pilot program at nine locations, including Warsaw and Wrocław, using cameras to track vehicle entry and exit. The system allows customers to park for up to two hours free of charge without requiring tickets or manual interaction, though fees apply for stays exceeding that limit.

Following this, Biedronka and Lidl also began testing similar ANPR systems. Lidl is testing the technology at approximately 10 locations, such as Poznań and Wrocław, to ensure parking remains free for shoppers—typically for up to 90 minutes—while deterring non-customers. Biedronka has implemented testing at over 10 sites. Both retailers reported satisfactory results regarding improved space availability for customers.
