Kaunas plans public transport network overhaul

Kaunas is planning a major overhaul of its public transport network to improve efficiency and reliability. The city aims to transition from a highly fragmented and overlapping route system to a more streamlined model centered around specialized transit terminals. These terminals, planned for various micro-districts, are intended to serve as transfer points that ensure higher frequency, shorter travel times, and more comfortable connections for passengers.

In conjunction with these structural changes, the city is promoting sustainable mobility through the Sustainable Mobility Week. This initiative includes events such as walking tours, cycling excursions, and a mass ride where Karaliaus Mindaugo Avenue will be temporarily dedicated to cyclists, scooter riders, and other micro-mobility users. The city continues to invest in bicycle paths and infrastructure to encourage residents to choose alternatives to cars for daily commuting.
