Kavala, Greece: Two Bulgarian workers arrested for causing fire during hot‑work operation

A fire ignited at 10:50 on Tuesday in the Akrotiri area of Old Tsifliki, municipality of Kavala, Greece, while hot‑work using a wheel was being performed. Police from the Fire Department's Crime Unit detained two Bulgarian nationals, aged 48 and 50, and charged them with negligence that led to the blaze. The suspects received a combined administrative fine of €2,019.37.

Authorities note that since the start of 2026, 528 administrative penalties totaling €667,404.85 have been imposed for similar violations, and 169 arrests have been made under the self‑initiated procedure, with 92% related to negligent fires.
