Kavalanzoio Stadium renovation timeline questioned in Greek Parliament
Rania Thraskia, a Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki, has submitted a formal inquiry to the Ministers of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, and Infrastructure and Transport regarding the renovation of the Kavalanzoio National Stadium.
The inquiry highlights concerns over the completion timeline for essential upgrades at the stadium. These renovations are critical for the facility to host PAOK FC, as the football club aims to begin construction on its new stadium, ‘New Toumba’, in the summer of 2027. For this transition to succeed, Kavalanzoio must be fully functional, safe, and capable of hosting both domestic and European matches.
Required works include structural reinforcement, accessibility improvements, track reconstruction, seat replacement, and upgrades to lighting, electronic boards, dressing rooms, and spectator facilities. While a programmatic agreement for the upgrades was recently signed, there is growing concern that the current projected completion date of 2028 may conflict with PAOK's infrastructure plans.
