PAOK FC stadium development and infrastructure planning

Overview

PAOK FC has unveiled technical designs for the ‘New Toumba’ stadium in Thessaloniki, a project intended to create a modern arena with a capacity of 34,000 to 35,000 spectators. The plan includes features such as a ‘Fan Wall’ in the North Stand, solar panels, and a roof designed for sound retention. Construction is projected to begin in the summer of 2027, with an estimated completion around 2030.

As the club prepares for this transition, concerns have emerged regarding the renovation of the Kavalanzoio National Stadium, which PAOK FC requires to host matches during the construction period. Member of Parliament Rania Thraskia has submitted a formal inquiry to Greek ministers regarding the renovation timeline. The inquiry emphasizes that for the transition to succeed, Kavalanzoio must be fully functional and safe to host domestic and European matches. Required upgrades include structural reinforcement, track reconstruction, and improvements to lighting, dressing rooms, and spectator facilities. There is growing concern that the current 2028 completion target for Kavalanzoio may conflict with PAOK’s infrastructure schedule.

Regarding the ‘New Toumba’ project, Panagiotis Toumpanakis, CEO of SALFO, stated that the development is moving from the design phase into implementation. He noted that studies and field research are progressing to ensure the stadium serves as a modern urban and sports destination that balances technical and economic criteria with the history and identity of the club.
