Kawhi Leonard reunites with Toronto Raptors following Clippers trade
Kawhi Leonard has officially reunited with the Toronto Raptors following a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers. The deal, which had been delayed pending an NBA investigation into the Clippers' salary-cap circumvention, involves the Raptors sending Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and multiple draft picks to Los Angeles.
Leonard, 35, expressed a personal connection to Toronto, noting that his son was born in the city and that his family felt supported by the community. He stated, “I’m not really championship chasing... I didn’t want to put on a thousand jerseys.” While Leonard is entering the final year of his contract, reports indicate the Raptors are in advanced discussions regarding a potential two-year extension worth approximately $124 million to $126 million.
The trade follows a significant NBA probe into the Clippers, which resulted in a $30 million fine for the organization and the loss of several first-round draft picks. Leonard himself received a $700,000 fine for his involvement in the salary-cap scandal. In Toronto, Leonard is expected to support a young core led by Scottie Barnes, whom Leonard described as “a problem” for upcoming opponents.
