Kazakhstan President Tokayev announces new government appointments

Following the resignation of the previous government after the election of the Kurultai, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced a series of key appointments to the nation’s new government and state bodies.

Erlan Karin has been appointed Vice President, a position introduced under the new constitutional framework. Aibek Dadabay, chairman of the Adilet political party, was elected Speaker of the Kurultai, while Olzhas Bektenov has retained his position as Prime Minister.

Several ministerial roles saw reappointments or changes. Serik Zhumangarin remains Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy, and Zhaslan Madiyev continues as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development. Dauren Kossanov and Yerzhan Sadenov were reappointed as Ministers of Defense and Internal Affairs, respectively. Mukhtar Tleuberdi has been appointed as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs.

These changes follow the implementation of a new Constitution on July 1, 2026, which transitioned the country’s parliament from a bicameral system to the unicameral Kurultai and established the Kazakhstan Halyk Kenesi as a high-level advisory body.
