KB Kookmin Bank to launch Kinexys blockchain cross‑border payments in August 2026
KB Kookmin Bank, South Korea’s largest lender, will launch a blockchain‑based cross‑border payment service for import‑export companies in August 2026. The service uses JPMorgan’s Kinexys permissioned blockchain platform and will support U.S. dollar transfers to ten countries – South Korea, United States, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and South Africa. It will integrate Kinexys with the existing SWIFT messaging network, offering near‑real‑time settlement, 24/7 operation and programmable payments. Corporate clients can access the service through KB Kookmin’s domestic branches and its Singapore branch. The rollout follows a memorandum of understanding signed with JPMorgan and makes KB Kookmin the first South Korean financial institution to use Kinexys for corporate payments. Kinexys has processed more than $4 trillion in cumulative transaction volume, with an average daily flow of about $70 billion.
