KDE Plasma 6.8 enters final refinement phase before October release

KDE Plasma 6.8 has entered its final refinement phase ahead of its expected release in mid-October. Developers are currently focusing on bug fixes and stability rather than adding new features. Currently, only four regressions have been reported, which developers note is a low number for a beta stage.

Key technical improvements and fixes include:

• KWin: A fix was implemented for a crash caused by specific interactions with title bar buttons. • Login Stability: A critical bug that caused system freezes during login when connected to monitors with non-standard VCP intervals, such as the Samsung Odyssey G60SF, has been resolved. • Notification Management: The system has been optimized to reduce disk usage by eliminating constant cache writes for every new notification, which should reduce wear on SSDs. • Menu Editor: A fix was applied to prevent the application from crashing when deleting multiple items simultaneously. • Performance: Ongoing work includes optimizations across multiple branches and updates to components like PulseAudioQt.
